Nice Ride, but Has Some Quirks

By Martin(Owner), Sep. 16, 2009

Compared to my brother's 2006 FX Cruiser HO, my 2008 rides a little higher in the water, possibly due to the new hull material and weight savings. This makes the 2008 a little faster to plane and maybe a couple of miles per hour faster, but not by much over the older models. It definitely feels mo... re agile in the turns, but it can bite when your not expecting it to or slide out instead. I'm still getting used to the handling. It is a little more quirky in rough water, and you have to watch yourself at low speeds and rough seas especially if you are hauling passengers. I've bailed out a couple of times to prevent a roll over that would not have happened with my brothers heavier machine. I've heard that the newer 2009 and 2010 machines are even a little lighter despite a more powerful engine and have some of the same handling quirks. The engine on the 2008 is the same as the earlier 2006 and 2007, but the sound on my machine is higher pitched (maybe due to the high RPM that this engine runs--10000)??? Plenty of power for my tastes, and I rarely go full throttle. I have hit 60 on it, and that is plenty fast. It tows a towable well and pretty easily. I haven't tried towing a wake boarder or skier yet. I got mine used with very low hours for a great price. If I were buying new I'd look for a 2009 with the larger engine which runs at a lower RPM (7500). Read Full Review
